How Does A Split System Air Conditioner Work?
A split system is one of the most popular types of air conditioners available.
There are 2 main components that make up a split system: the indoor unit and the outdoor unit. These two units work together to provide both heating and cooling.
These units are connected by wires and piping that has refrigerated gas flowing through them. The indoor unit sucks in air from within the room and sends it to the outdoor unit through the piping. Then, that air is cooled or heated by the outdoor unit, depending on the desired temperature set by the owner. Once cooled or heated, the air is then sent back through the piping to be distributed into the home from the indoor unit.
Split systems are beneficial for many reasons. Some key reasons include:
They don’t require ducting – only small pipes
They do both heating and cooling from the one unit
They are easy to clean and service
They are cheaper than ducted air conditioners and heaters
